I am completely confused as to what to do about icing a cake that's going to be sent through the mail. How do you do it? Obviously you don't whip cream and call that icing, which is the best icing for the cake I'd been planning to make, and a cream cheese frosting would probably get all nasty. I'm confused.

Today, my iPod decided it was January 1 2000, and the time was all wrong too. So I called Apple, and unlike last time (oh, well, you have to send it back), the guy I talked to was actually helpful, and told me I should try reformatting the iPod. Connor wouldn't let me restart the computer after downloading the iPod software cause he had stuff open, but now I should be able to fuss with it. It makes me happy.

Hey, Remi, I can't think of one off the top of my head, but I'll puzzle over it, and if I wake up in the middle of the night and think of it, I'll let you know.

I preordered Harry Potter at Barnes and Noble, because I felt like it, and then my brother complained, cause he has a gift certificate for Borders. So I called Borders and ordered books there. And then I was talking to my dad about when we should go up to visit him, and he said, how about the weekend of the 16th? And so that is when we are going. So I'll have to find another bookstore. Maybe he'll do that for us. I was kind of terribly looking forward to a midnight Harry Potter thing, cause I think it's fun to geek out, and do something like that. I didn't see any of the Lord of the Rings movies at midnight, or the godawful Star Wars movies, but I did go to all of them on opening day.

This weekend we went to this cool breakfast restaurant at a sugar shack in New Hampshire. They give you really real awesome maple syrup they make themselves, and their pancakes were great. We had pumpkin pancakes and buckwheat blueberry pancakes. Chris had a maple milk shake, which we all thought was totally awesome. The gift shop had cool things made out of maple and totally kitchy silly arty gift shop type stuff. I got maple syrup to send to Katherine, and maple jelly beans for fun. Anyway, it was awesome, and if you're ever in New Hampshire, you should go.

I find, watching TV, that you generally can figure out how close it is to the end by time and by how the story's progressing. Dr. Who is the exception to that, for me, because I expect multiple episode story arcs that run back to back for some length of time that we never think to look up before going off to Campbell basement to watch it. But now the new ones are episode long stories. It sort of drives me batty. Both of the ones that have been continued confused me when they ended, cause they were starting to feel normal, and then they cut off, and I had to put on another one, or, in the case of the one from last weekend, wait. And it was possibly one of the scariest things I've ever seen.

I signed up with a Word of the Day mailing list through dictionary.com, and I swear I haven't gotten a word that I didn't know yet. Well, abnegate. But, in the past two days, I got suffuse and pallor. And I was like, oh, come on, i was hoping for big long words that people don't use@

Our columbines are growing all over the place, huge and tall, and they look beautiful. The tree peony we got for my mom for Mother's Day years and years ago is blooming for maybe the first time since she transplanted it, these huge dark red blossoms. Everything else in our garden is weeds.

Years ago, I bought the Best of U2 from 1980-1990. It's a wonderful CD. I have this odd thing with it, where I lose it on a regular basis and it disappears for years, and I consider buying a new one, but I don't particularly like replacing CDs that I've lost, cause, well, then I inevitably find it. It was gone for years, and then yesterday when I was dropping Sam with Jamie before going to work, I thought, huh, I wonder what that CD lying on the ground there is, and there it was. And it wasn't scratched or anything, which was amazing, given that it had obviously been lying, face up, on the floor for ages, probably at least a year. (Wow, is our house dirty.) Just dusty. So I cleaned it off this morning, and I put it in the computer and ripped it, and am listening to it. I'm very happy.

Today was like a time trip, to the days when Macs were grey, and it was typical for harddrives to have 1 gig of space (and floppy drives, but I didn't need one of those) and OS 8.6. Shockingly, the computer had this vague thought that an upgrade would be a good idea for the scanning program on the computer running 8.6. I laughed a laughed.
