My sister is graduating from F&M tomorrow. (Congradulations, seniors like Libby, by the way.) I went to the stuff they did today, mostly because my grandmother who lives in Arizona was there. She made Phi Beta Kappa, and that was a rather dull ceremony, although it's a bizarre thing, in general. It's like all secret society like, except that during some anti-Masonic thing, they stopped being secret. Then I went to their Baccalaureate, which was very long, and there were a few nice things, but mostly it was kind of, well, dull. They had a chamber orchestra who played, and then some singers came out and sang Ave Verum (they came out with music, and I was like, dude, my friends sang that song without music after consuming rather a lot of alcohal and not having sung it together possibly ever and certainly hadn't sung it recently, and sounded fine, not perfect, certainly, but they sounded nice) and then another piece. There is a girl in her class from South Africa, who spoke about culture differences and how it has become home. And they did this thing with dads and their kids "then" and "now" (the dad's had all graduated from F&M at about the same time as each other). And there was this circle, where they did "I'm such and so, this is my major, and this is how I met this person." Which was okay, not fascinating, but the last two people were Jamie and her freshman roommate's best friend, and their connection was Sarah, who was lost at sea last fall, and they both spoke about Sarah, with a picture between them, and that was hearbreaking. Tomorrow is the actual graduation ceremony.

I am sad. The website Julia showed me where I got my Dr. Who episodes is down. And I was so excited that tomorrow will bring a new Dr. Who.

My job, which I found rather pleasant the two times I was there (mindless, but okay mindless, and busy mindless, rather than sitting in space and staring like I did last summer) is now dependant on people getting them stuff to do. This shouldn't be a problem. Right. So, they were like, okay, well, when we get the stuff from them for the next magazine, then we'll need you. We'll let you know when it comes in. It hasn't come in. They're pissed, cause they were supposed to have seven weeks to work on it, and they'll have like three. I'm pissed, cause they will need me, but in the meantime, they don't, and so I stay home. I play with dogs, and I play with the computer, and I watched all the new Dr. Who episodes, and I read novels, but I'm not making any money. But I can't really go out and get another job, because, well, I sort of have this job, and they will actually need me at some point. They just don't know when, cause the guy who was supposed to give them the guy who was supposed to give them the work went on vacation without telling anyone. At a really bad time.

I have this sort of memory of a story about some hero who had to kill this huge monster. The monster's heart was in his heel. I remember nothing else. I'm almost entirely sure it's not a bastardation of Achilles. I remember an illustration. I was sure the story was in my Childcraft Myths and Lengends book, but I couldn't find it when I searched through it yesterday. I thought maybe it was Gilgamesh or Beowulf, but I've been assured that neither of them had a giant monster who's heart was in his foot. Does anyone else remember this story? Can you help?

I love the spyware ad popups warning you that you might have spyware. It's like the biggest joke in the world.

As cool as the concept of wireless mouse seems when you first get one, it eventually occurs to you that this means you have to change the batteries on your mouse. It's really actually kind of dumb.

One of the things I don't particularly understand is why PC users always get all superiour when a Mac user says something like "well, I don't really know how to deal with spyware, cause I don't get it" and their very superior response is "that's cause people don't write spyware for Macs." And it's like, yes, that's true, and why should I switch to your kind of computer where people get spyware and viruses and the hardware just breaks?

I found my Chinese food in the small fridge downstairs. It was put there either to hide it from Marija, who eats everything, or because the fridge up here was full. I was very happy to find it.

I had this wonderful database going. It was perfect. And then, for some reason, all the fields got totally messed up! All of the sudden! Out of the blue! and I don't know Access at all well enough to try to, say, fix, so I have to start over!

I don't know how seriously to take this and it seems unlike George Lucas to allowe for such a thing to be written, or the movie to have been shown, but if it's true, it's hopeful.

I very specifically tried to drain the iPod yesterday, so I could charge it overnight, so it would be fully charged for the bus to Cassie's. But I didn't wind up doing any of that til it was past 1, and I forgot to plug the firewire thing into the bottom of the iPod.
