We can't get another 18 inches of snow. We just can't. There's nowhere to put it.

The future is here! I can't tell you how happy this makes me. For the past few years I've been filling in the fillable PDF forms, then printing them off and mailing them in, so they could then be scanned into a computer. It really bothered me.

How soon can one experience cold symptoms after being infected? Because I feel morally certain that after visiting an ER room for 7 hours this morning that I'm doomed, and I already detect symptoms. I suspect this is completely impossible and that I'm just worn out.

I was in Baltimore this week, downtown, which is a definite improvement over Woodlawn. Our client has an office in the B&O Warehouse, which is possibly the prettiest buliding in Baltimore. I was due to fly back Wednesday afternoon, which didn't happen. But I am actually here to praise Air Tran. They cancelled my flight at around 10am, giving me time to get a room near the airport, and they got me on one of the first flights to land in Boston this morning. Also, they serve tea. Delta, on the other hand, ended up leaving one of my coworkers on the tarmac for 3 hours before letting him back in the terminal, at which point all the cabs had stopped due to the snow: he ended up having to rent a car and drive back downtown to find a hotel. He didn't get back to Nashville until 7pm today.

An easily removable barrier that you put at the end of your driveway when snow is coming, that fills the space so the snowplow doesn't push snow into it.
The difficulty would be making it both reasonably easy to install and remove, but solid enough to be effective. there's a lot of force involved. I think post-holes would be the way to go.

Have I mentioned that I love Calibri? I love Calibri. Every time I take a document and change the font from Ariel to Calibri, I become happy. Particularly ones with numbers. And the thing is, the great thing is, I can do this without people thinking I'm one of these weird font obsessives, because it's the new default.
When people make lovingly crafted historical dramas set in the last two decades, they'll have to go and install period fonts and rent vintage CRT monitors, but will get it slightly wrong and run Netscape on a Windows XP emulator, or use WebCrawler in firefox.

Photos from Tunisia. Apparently the Atlantic has hired away the guy who edits this starting in February. I hope they keep the Big Picture going as well.

the kittens are purring! Also still hissing, but definitely purring. the final trick seemed to be keeping them in separate rooms, so that they don't have a friend in the world but us. Domestication is a bizarre thing to do to an animal.

We're fostering two feral kittens, who haven't quite mastered the concept that we aren't trying to eat them yet. They will sit in our laps and go to sleep, but the first day we had them, would hiss when we approached. They like the cubbyholes in the desk. _respond? (3)
