We saw Jodhaa Akbar in a sold out theater on Sunday. I love living walking distance from a first run bollywood theater. If you get a chance, it's a profoundly relaxing movie. It had heard about dramatic tension, and didn't want anything to do with it, preferring to fill up on the bunny rabbits, cavalry charges, food, swashbuckling, sufis, facial hair, secular patriotism and general lavish gorgeousness. It's like they had a list of things people like looking at, and crammed them all into a movie. _

life as a kite
There may be better ways to attach a camera to a kite than tying the wrist-strap to the string. _

e arlington from kite
So, I decided to tie my camera to the string of my large delta kite, leave it running in film mode, try to fly it in the puddle of mud known as Thornton Field, and see what happens. The wind was fitful, but we got one good flight. The result isn't exactly a moving picture, so much as a disconnected collection of pictures. (except for the end: once I let go of the string the flight got much smoother, and there's a nice passage of me pelting across the field to catch the camera while a dog and it's walker looked on bemusedly. (I made it!) Here's a picture it took of East Arlington, up Margeret Street. That's the bike path on your right.

I'm going to test the camera, see how long it can run in pulse mode, so I could get full resolution pictures. It only took a minute to get this high. I'll tell you, a kite going into a dive is much more exciting when it has your camera dangling from it. _

Sketch-Up is starting to make sense, though I'm still having an awful time trying to convince it that some things are faces. _

okay, I've given up on the chinese brushpainting, because it requires coordination and deciseveness. SketchUp is much more my thing.

Not a true ambigram: I toggled the colors when I flipped it, which I think I regret. _

decided I needed a larger opaque area in the center to mask the mechanism. Also: found a filter in photoshop that thickens lines and makes them look a bit metallic, making it much easier to think of as stained glass. _

Current thinking for a stained glass clock face. The center 6 pieces are opaque, to sort of hide the mechanism. _

This is simply an observation: the other day I was half listening to the radio. NPR had what I took to be a republican shill talking about the economic incentive plan, and how of course since it was a tax rebate, see, the money had to go to people who payed the taxes. It turned out it was Nancy Pelosi. _
