I'm not quite sure when my old cheap kneeling chair died, but I think it was in Providence. At any rate, I've finally determined that I am incapable of not sitting on my feet in this company-provided office chair, and ordered a HAG Balans chair, something I have coveted roughly forever.

Zakaria on the politics of Cuba policy
Obama has advocated easing the Bush-imposed ban on Cuban-Americans visiting the island and sending money to their relatives. He makes a broader case for a new Cuba policy, arguing that capitalism, trade and travel will help break the regime's stranglehold on the country and help open things up.
Clinton immediately disagreed, firmly supporting the current policy. This places her in the strange position of arguing, in effect, that her husband's Cuba policy was not hard-line enough. But this is really not the best way to understand Clinton's position. In all probability, she actually agrees with Obama's stand. She is just calculating that it would anger Cuban-Americans in Florida and New Jersey.

Ana interviews her cats. (warning: completely pointless) I actually had a very similar conversation with my cat yesterday. I kept reminding him to vote, and also concluded that he should vote for Paul. Indoor cats are a natural libertarian constituency.

Town by town results for Massachusetts. Arlington hasn't reported yet, but generally speaking, my vicinity went to Obama.
Update: There we are. Arlington goes for Clinton, 48 to 47, a 172 vote difference. Other side, Romney-McCain-Huckabee-Paul, 52-40-3-3. In both cases, we live just on the edge of more enlightened areas.

A letter I just sent to my representative Ed Markey:
I am writing because the Democratic party has seen fit to give you 1/8th of our district's vote in the primary. If it comes down to it, I would hope you would support Barack Obama. He represents hope for the democratic party, and getting beyond the small, cautious politics of the past. As you well know, there are many issues where the democratic party have the principled, popular position. American democracy is stuck on the rocks of identity politics and the culture war. I believe Barack Obama can float us free. He can make the case for effective, strong, moral government in a way that no one else can.
Thank you, and thank you for your principled stand against extraordinary rendition.
