Entirely against my will, I have committed my 10 digit client personnel number to memory, along with a password, unique to their system, because they have yet different password rules from everyone else (at least 8, must have numbers, no symbols). I begrudge them the brain cells, and would rely on my sticky if I could, but it's no good, I've learned it, and can't get it out again. _

The Arlington List moderator is resigning his commission after some pretty nasty flaming. A contingent is now calling for, and really, I couldn't be more pleased, having the local government take over list administration, and having town list moderator be an elected office. Not that it's a good idea, of course, but it is utterly adorable, and somehow profoundly representative of New England/Unitarian/Socialist thought. _

For those incapable of throwing away useless things: Freecycling lists. Like trash picking, only slightly more debonaire. I've just posted a digital answering machine that we both feel a general dislike for, and am going back to paying the phone company $6 a month for voicemail. Extravagence, perhaps, but I dislike the thing. It beeps at me, and flashes red when it's 9 volt backup battery dies, but the backup battery only lasts for a couple hours of being left unplugged. And I want fewer AC adapters in my life. If it actually goes, then maybe the horrible standard-bulb torchiere which we replaced with a lovely flourescent one 2 years ago, but somehow never got rid of. Someone offered a collection of brown paper grocery bags the other day, which I jumped at immediately, as anyone would, but alas, they were already claimed. _

Swampland: 9:10 PM: "Debaathification" always makes me think of Peanuts' PigPen. Only, you know, with more sectarian violence. How many times will we try to kick that football before we give up, huh?

I watched nearly the whole thing. I'm not sure why. Why watch a president give a speech, rather than read it the next day? If he were wise, it would be to hear wisdom. He isn't wise. If we were the decider, it would be to understand how he thinks, to know which way the wind is blowing. He isn't the decider. Plus, he looks so very nervous up there. I'm sure he isn't as clueless as he seems, reciting a speech someone else wrote, about someone else's plan, off the teleprompter. But he's so bad at it. His speeches are more a sort of ritual humiliation than anything useful. _

Part-timers and people who work from home more more than 4 times a month should be evicted from offices and window cubicles. That is all. _

Are snails my friends? It's a question that's been bothering me lately. I've discovered if I only clean the algae off the front of the tank, and leave the other 3 walls, the algae grows back more slowly, and I get different sorts, than if I keep cleaning it off, and I can see my fish. I've given up on plants, got some plastic ones, which hurt my soul, but they look nice enough. The snails are all over them, demonstrating their cupability in my recent plant failures. I'm still massacring the snails on an irregular basis, as a special treat for the cory and the gouramis, who chobble at their mortal remains. I should probably put less food in. _

A new record, 5 stores visited in today's grocery shopping trip, starting with the cheapest, and working our way through the list:
Trader Joes (frozen lunches, mushrooms, juice, nuts)
Penzeys (spices)
Stop and Shop (fresh vegetables, dry goods, staples)
Whole Foods (udon noodles, lamb, fresh bay leaves, sun-dried tomatoes)
Formaggio Kitchen (cheese, balsamic vinegar)
Nearly stopped at Iggy's Breads on the way home, but decided that was too silly. _
