I should reserve a spot on the plane anyway, and go if the weather is clear. Or at least call the airfield.

I was all excited about the idea of going sky diving on Friday, but it looks like the Tropical Depression is supposed to get here on Thursday and Friday. ((sigh))

Saturday morning, as I'm lazily drinking tea and reading Bridget Jones at our new dining room table, my roommates came upstairs for breakfast. And one of them sat down in the kitchen, at the little table with stools "because she's in there reading." At which point I cracked up, and said "never ever assume that just because I'm reading I shouldn't be interrupted."

If you are in charge of HR, you should have an answer better than "I have no idea, why would you want to do that?" when someone asks how you do a mail in prescription. Because it's cheaper? Because there are pills that I do take everyday? Good lord.

I had this absolute panicked freak out this evening when I suddenly realized I hadn't seen Sam in kind of a while, and had the last time I'd seen him been when I'd taken trash out to the curb two hours earlier. I called him and called him and he didn't pop his little head up, and I didn't hear his tags clinking and I was so freaked out. I had my shoes on and was trying to figure out how to look for him outside when he came running up to me. From inside. He had, apparently, been intently watching my roommates work with chicken in the downstairs kitchen. It was such a relief. Idiot dog.

Looking at my bookshelves this afternoon I realized that I have two of those black leather complete Hitchhiker's Guide things. One has my name (and the fact that I bought it in March 2002; actually, Andrew bought it, because someone had stolen the copy I had lent him and he felt responsible and so he replaced it) written in the front. The other does not. It probably belongs to Tracy, Katherine, or Brianne. Possibly to my sister. But I'm not quite sure what to do with it.
(Or else it belongs to whomever it is whose copy of the extended Two Towers I have on my shelf; who needs two copies of that?)
So, any ideas of what I should do with it? Anyone want a complete set of the Hitchhikers Guide books? And/or the extended version of The Two Towers?
(I also have at least three translations of The Iliad. But, unless I am still sitting on Latimore, I'm not giving up any of my Iliads. From where I am sitting, I can see a Greek version and the Chapman, but I know I have Fagles around as well.)

Last night, I watched Glee with my roommate, and then when it ended, he asked me kind of meekly if I had any books. You know, novels. I cracked up. Perhaps my book collection is abnormal? All of my current roommates seem to think it's exotic. Could he borrow something to read, perhaps, he asked? Of course. Unforuntately, he tends to like thrillers, of which I have none. I nearly gave him Murder Must Advertise because at least it was a mystery, but I could only find Busman's Honeymoon, the rest of my Sayers must be in boxes. I tried to give him The Hitchhiker's Guide but he was frightened off by the size of the book (I have one of those "all five in one book" things). So I lent him The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, American Gods and The Eye of the Dragon (I didn't know I had that last one, but it was Steven King and he likes thrillers. Even if it is the book Steven King wrote for his daughter who doesn't like horror.) I have no idea if he will like any of them.
Really, I don't have that many books. I think. I have the right number of books. I just don't have enough bookshelves.

My brilliant cooking plans that only may or may not actually pan out:
marzipan fruit/vegetables. I'm thinking of getting a tube and forming vegetables and not adding dye for Bunnicula. They might wind up on top of cupcakes
adventures in biscotti. My sesame biscotti came out rather tasty, and I am on a roll now. I want to do anise-almond. And chocolate hazelnut, dipped in white chocolate.
meringue flavor experiments. What would happen if you add a whole bunch of cinnamon? Inquiring minds want to know. Sounds like autumn to me.
Lakshmi's Yogi Tea recipe. (Wow, that is quite the name, Lakshmi's Yogi.) I bought all of the spices from the bulk section at a health food store. Or at least I thought I did. I got home and realized I'd apparently left the cinnamon sticks in the bulk section. Whoops! Try again later.
And I'm doing movie night on Friday with my friend Molly. I'm going to make pizza, and ice cream. I'm going to try some cherry rose coconut ice cream that I found a recipe for...somewhere. It sounds delicious. And I have an absurd amount of culinary roses in my pantry. (The roses and the lavendar make my spice cabinet smell particularly awesome.)

The magic of Facebook:
I put the same request on Facebook for the tea recipe, and referenced my friend whose father ran the health food store I used to go to, where they served the tea in the restaurant. And so she gave me the recipe. And so. I am so very excited that I can make this tea again.

All right, other people who grew up going to health food stores, do other people out there remember Yogi Tea? Before they just started doing tea bags of various different medicinal teas, the delicious mixes of herbs that took forever to cook. With cinnamon, pepper, anise, cardamom, and...? Any idea what the other things were? I wat to try to make it.

While I don't actually believe that fall is here for good yet, I am adore that fall flavors are back. I had a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks last week, and I had butternut squash apple soup for lunch just now. YUM.
Maybe I will make my Thai-style carrot soup sometime soon.

It turns out the reason my phone is still running Android 1.5 and not 2.something is that you have to plug it into your computer to update the firmware. Who knew. And also, you have to plug it into a Windows machine. Arg. I'd do it at work, but I'm pretty sure I can't download and install programs on my computer at work. Maybe I'll just take it to a Sprint Store and say "update please?"

There are two things that make me sad about the Pippi house:
1) It is in Stockholm, which is far away and expensive to get to
Okay, I don't understand literary trends. (ha ha, who does?) But how do things suddenly pop up? Why was everyone reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo this summer? Why are The Hunger Games books all over the place now? Where did they suddenly come from?

Woot. So proud of myself for remembering the fancy cast-on method for an utterly gorgeous 1x1 rib. Normally I resort to Youtube, because I don't actually use it that often. But, I remembered, all by myself, on the subway this morning. So proud.
And, I'm half heartedly watching a staff meeting through a window, while waiting for my database to do its thing, and someone is showing everyone what Twitter is. He is in his mid-20s, and they are all...older. (Except for one girl who is not really paying attention, she is 30, I am guessing she knows what Twitter is.)

Hello, only week in September where I have to work a full week. While I look forward to the chance to actually Get Shit Done, I rather revelled in the 4 1/2 day weekend Rosh Hoshana gave me.

And we have gotten rid of the hideous couches, one was immediately taken away from the curb, the other was a futon thing and someone took the frame, but left the cushions. We have a dining room table. My hous actually looks like a house. We have started to work seriously on the organizing the kitchen, but my stomach has been bugging me since before I got home and my roommate had a weather headache, so we cleaned up our mess and put it aside. It looks so pretty. (But it made Sam very nervous.)
