My problem with the second season of Heroes is, esentially, that my favorite characters are stuck in place. Claire and Peter are esentially back doing exactly the same thing that they did at the beginning of the first season, and it's like okay, come on, move on already. At least he has the amnesia thing going, so his trying to figure out what's going on is at least slightly more realistic than Claire just chopping of toes for no reason except to see what will happen. Something needs to happen, they need the big reveal that will bring our heroes back together. They are better together. _

I bought a small pumpkin (apparently a "sugar baby" pumpkin) at Trader Joe's last week, telling myself that I would attempt to make something like the sauteed pumpkin dish that I have gotten at both Afghan restaurants that I have eaten at. It is sitting in my kitchen, taunting my bravery, and threatening to be made into a pie. (Not that I have ever made a pumpkin pie either. But at least I have a recipe for that, not just a vague "if I sautee it in butter with garlic and ginger, it has to be good, right? Right?") _

I had some odd dream last night where Simon Tamm was also Josh Lyman. It wasn't like switching actors, it was some weird combination of the characters. I don't remember the details. _

My TiVo is nearly empty. There is some DS9 and a ton of Mystery, but that is like it. I'm sure that tomorrow it will record the same Colbert Report 20 times, and then there will be Heroes, but still. _

Having someone explain a book to you is interesting, especially if more than one person has done so. You ask Brianne, and she'll talk for half an hour, and you realize suddenly that she has just explained the 10 page set up when all you were looking for was "it's a fun book about vampires that you might enjoy" (or whatever). Yesterday, my coworker was trying to tell me about Eragon the movie as though I had read the book and had a clue about what goes on in it. It sounded like bad Pern fanfic. _

Amazon seems to have decided I am interested in pictures books that I have never heard of, and the artwork on the cover isn't particularly good. That and quasi-historical romance novels. I think this is because of a recent search on The Winter Prince. (Funny, you'd think it would be far more obsessed with digital cameras than it is.) _

I am in this odd sort of holding pattern with being tired. I spend all day at work tired, and then I get home, and I am wide awake. I cannot fall asleep before midnight these days. While this is nothing new, and it is what my body tends towards anyway, it is frustrating. I thought I had largely made my circadian cycle switch to a more work-acceptable time clock, but apparently not. I went through this a couple months ago, as well, and started taking melatonin before bed. I have tried that again this week, but melatonin doesn't make me fall asleep, and it isn't helping stay asleep as well as it used to. _

Brook and Brad used to occasionally take us all out to breakfast. But that was much more along the lines of them waking up and saying "let's do breakfast and open the store an hour late" instead of it being a meeting. _

I have decided to get a new digital camera. I'm really excited. I have decided on a model and everything. Connor is helping me price shop online. Last night, before the movie, I went to Best Buy to play with the floor displays, and I confirmed to myself that I was not willing to spend $100+ to get a screen that's 1 inch bigger. Also, I have been convinced that 7.2 megapixels is probably more than enough. _

I very nearly missed my bus this morning. I had given it up as missed when I left the house. Then I saw the bus go by in the other direction when I was still close enough that I could run down to Russell and hope to make it onto Russell before my bus got there. It got to my stop just as I was crossing the street, and because the bus driver is awesome and nice and has been picking me up like every morning for two years, he stopped when I waved. _

I am feeling knitpicky. Brianne and I went to see Elizabeth: The Golden Age. It was very pretty, but that was all. I thought both Cate Blanchett and Clive Owen were better than the script. They also kept doing "arty shot" things where suddenly a scene would be shot through, I don't know, something small, like bits of a carved screen or something, and that could've been interesting, but it felt forced. Also, all the Spanish were sort of creepy and inhuman. I will grant that it was a movie about the English, but the Spanish scenes seemed very wrong in a way I can't quite put my finger on. The costumes and cinematography were spectacular. _

Okay, so now you have to get there by a boat. I took a boat. I understand that the lovely ruined castle isn't going to be what you're going to show Mary Queen of Scots in in the movie, but would there have been a huge stone bridge leading to the island where you're holding a political prisoner? Cause that strikes me as...odd. _

Having said that, I will now totally display geek fan-girl attitudes and admit that while watching TV with one of my cousins last summer, there was a commercial for the Pirates movie and she sighed "Captain Jack is so hot" and my mind lept to Captain Jack Harkness. _

Clive Owen is way cuter as a pirate than Johnnie Depp. It is like he was designed to be an Elizabethan pirate. _
