Sam finished a small chocolate rabbit this weekend, when Brianne and I left the house. I went into a panic and called the vet ER. She was very calm and nice and told me how much chocolate a 10 pound dog could eat, and that he would probably be okay. (He is fine.) I realized that, probably right about now and then again in early November, they get a lot of those sorts of panicked phone calls.

I succeeded in destroying both the things I was cooking for dinner. I somehow dropped the asparagus all over the bottom of the oven, the dusty inside of the broiler, and the floor. And I burnt my polenta to a blackened crisp. Now I'm all sad, and I don't know what to eat.

Our new virus scanner finds every cookie from every website ever, but it doesn't ever find the weird svchost program that if I don't catch it on time uses all my available computer memory and makes it so I can't do anything. I hate this new program.

Brianne and I made tortellinis last night, when I couldn't figure out how to keep the pasta I was running through my brand new pasta maker from sticking together (the trick, I found out later, was to use the larger setting. That really helped). It was a blast. They are quite tasty, although possibly not quite cooked all the way through. We made our own artichoke pesto stuff to go inside. Brianne is far more patient, and good at helping me figure out what to do when I suddenly panic in the kitchen. (I get frustrated and tend to want to cry, and she comes up with creative solutions.

It takes being a very special sort of person to send your roommate a text message at 10 at night to ask them to make a loaf of bread before they go to bed, when, as far as you know, the kitchen is covered in massive amounts of dishes. (It wasn't, because I was losing it in the kitchen, and Brianne washed them so I would stop freaking out.)

I get oddly compulsive about extra spaces after periods, and hard/soft returns. I go slightly mad when I try to deal with things other people have done. I run Word with the paragraph marks showing, and go slightly mad and want to scream at people for two spaces after periods in form letters.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a program to rip CDs? I was trying to rip one last night with iTunes, and it got stuck on one track. I forced quit, tried again, twice, took the CD out, tried again, took it out and restarted the computer, and tried again, all to the same avail. I haven't ripped a CD with anything but iTunes in ages.

There is a new coffee shop across the street from my office that opened today. They have the incredibly original name of "Coffeeshop". But the muffin I got was nice, as is the coffee. Also, they have gelato, and apparently WiFi.
