Tori's Bloglet

Current entry is now:
Yesterday, I walked out of TCS late at night, after helping with childcare for their How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and How to Listen so Kids Will Talk (which, by and large, rather annoys me). It had rained during the class, which had made it hell up in the playroom, with too many kids in a small hot space who wanted to be outside, but it had stopped by the time I was leaving. The ground was misting, and the storm had broken humidity and heat, at least temporarily. Their were fireflies in the grass, and it looked like magic. _

By the way, Libby, as I have no idea how to get in touch with you, Peter O'Toole has been in close to 70 movies (Jamie and I looked it up on IMDB), he has three movies in the making, and he played Don Quixote in a movie of The Man of la Mancha. _

Two weeks ago(ish) I sat there with a bunch of balloons and popped them. Slowly, and carefully, as I was at TCS. I poked holes in the tops of them, then squeezed the air out.I discovered that it's possible to pull the hole at the top bigger, to a certain point, but at some point, it will pop the balloon. I've been feeling like I'm just about at that point for about a week and a half, now. I will either deflate or pop at someone, and I'm not sure which. I've been looking forward oh so very much to visiting with everyone this weekend, and, even though I asked off, I'm on the schedule. It has made me cry repeatedly. I wanted to be in Annapolis last weekend, but that wasn't happening, what with the 20th Anniversary Celebration at TCS, and on Friday when I was totally upset with J and J, I almost skipped the events on Saturday to go down there. I dont have a clue how to deal with this, as there doesn't seem to be anyone to take over my shift. _

It's Friday. Friday is low-key alum day. It's Tori really needs to make that stupid chocolate cake day. It's hang up lights when we get to school, at least at some point. It's also time for me to go clean up. _

I walked into a woman's house and her son was watching Sesame Street. Sesame Street is apparently having some kind of anniversary, like 30, or something. (This was two days ago.) And they were showing classic bits of Sesame Street and what got me was there was Mr. Hooper. I was shocked, and I nearly cried. _

Now, I know none of you are coming to our thing on Saturday, but I want eveyrone to help me concentrate really hard on keeping the rain away.Cause if it rains, and everything is ruined, I will be very very sad. There is no way we are fitting 150 people inside, let alone the lack of dance, and the speech will just disappear. _

If you are going to write a review of Troy and talk a good deal about the actual Homer, and talk rather intelligently about the actual poem, and quote Richmond Lattimore, and talk about the way The Iliad makes an amazing book, but also talk about the way some of it just doesn't translate into a movie at the beginning of the 21st century, and you're going to talk aobut how Troy really is a good movie, and you're going to summarize THE POEM and you're going to talk about Patroclus, get his age relationship to Achilles right. I don't care if they fuck it up in the movie. Don't say that Achilles gets upset when his young tentmate Patroclus is killed when you're talking about the poem. I'm sorry. It was a rant. It totally pissed me off when I was reading The New Yorker this afternoon. _

In the Giant I wandered around in for a while today as I was locked out of my car, I looked at the books. They were, by and large, crap. There was one at the bottom called The Siege at Troy or something along those lines. It was a modern translation of The Iliad. I looked at it. It's prose, and crap, but it was Homer. For sale at Giant. I give Brad Pitt credit for this phenomenon. _

I have lost one of my favourite shirts. I just tore apart my room trying to find it, and now I really don't know what to do. These days, all my work pants are black (as I have worn holes in all the others), and my only nice-ish spring-ish clean shirt is black, and all black might not go over all that well at work. Oh, well, it might have to, as that is what I'll have to wear. _
