I find Jess amusing. I try to figure her out. But I like when Karen writes about other things as well. I think her prose is lovely when she is not writing about Jess.

A Greek Hero should be like and yet unlike a Christian Saint. They are both striving (and succeeding) at being like their god. But the Christian God is a perfect, flawless, all knowing, all powerful being. And the Greek Gods are flawed, ignorant, beings, concerned with appearances, and able to be physically injured or tricked by others.

I used to listen to Tigerlily when I was studying. For whatever reason, it was the best sort of thing for me to listen to while studying for Greek or Latin exams. Sometimes 99.9 F Degrees as well. It started cause I really needed something to listen to, and they were the only CD's I could find my extremely messy room. Now I can't find Tigerlily, and this makes me sad.

All right, who out there finds it odd that I tell you that Great Ajax is Telamonian Ajax and spell Telamonian correctly without looking it up? (Well, looking it up to see if I got it right.)

My sister and I think of our little brother as five years younger than I and three years younger than she. My brother on the hand thinks of himself as six and four years younger than us. His logic is "I'm born in 86, they're born in 80 and 82, subtraction says..." Our theory is we were five and three when he was born, therefore he is five and three years younger than us. (Jamie and I do not have this same problem, having the same birthday.)

I was told once a word that is the name for those bits in the Iliad where they follow one guy and he kills a bunch of people. I can't remember it, and Katherine and Moss seem a little confused at my question, so I'm figuring I heard it in pre-St. John's Greek.

One of my uncles gave me a CD by this band called "Four Bitchin' Babes." What's interesting is I can't figure out which of them gave it to me. John gave me Joan Baez and Walter gave me a note saying that he was going to give me Jane Siberry, and David gave me a gift certificate to Barnes and Nobles.

What is it about Achilles that grabs our attention? He is a whiny brat a good deal of the time. I'm not at all sure I like him. He sits out because Agamemnon refuses to give him the credit he thinks is his due as the best of the Achaean warriors, his theory being "ha, let them find out how much they need me." And yet, until Zeus pulls all the gods out of the battlefield and sits there urging the Trojans on, Diomedes does a damn fine job at kicking a lot of Trojan ass. (Or hacking a lot of Trojan neck, your call.) But it is Achilles we remember. I sat down and was rereading The Iliad and said, oh, yeah, Diomedes, I'd forgotten all about this guy. He seems rather nifty. But we all forget about him. I wonder why.

I read Tracy's paper as the residant Athiest, to assure her that the Faith talk wasn't too...something. And it wasn't. It was definately religious, cause, well, it's about Judeo-Christian Faith, and I defy you to manage to talk about such a thing without it being in anyway Religious, but it wasn't...I said it wasn't Descartes, she said Descartes was sarcastic, so I said it wasn't Anselm, or Sophomore Year in general. I could not write a paper on Faith, said I, because my Faith is generally a bit different. My Faith is that logic will be able to explain things, that there is no God.

I lent most of my Sandman to Erin last night, and by Storytellers she had read all of mine, the two I hadn't lent her that she borrowed from Tracy, and the Japanese one I haven't read.

When I was in early elementary school (K-3, is what I mean) I got along extremely well with all the girls in my class (I went to an all girls school at the time) except one girl (Pontea). I was happy. When I moved away, they had a picture taken of our class all together, and it was put in a frame with our names around the edge, and it was given to me as a going away present. My friends Shayna, Ashley and Lauren had a party for me. I went to public school when I left, where I was miserable. I think some kids had friends, and they'd been friends for a while, and they didn't want New Friends, and they certainly didn't want me as a New Friend. I would occassionally visit my old friends at Baldwin; I remember once when I came back, I met up with Shayna and Pontea, who were both extremely happy to see me, and I was happy to see both of them, cause even the way I had not gotten along with Pontea was not in the same way I had no friends in public school. I think my four years in public school were horrible years, but I left public school and went to The Circle School where friends are easily made (most of the time), and I was happy there as well.

I deal with stress, and I am feeling stressed about this essay thing, by feeling sleepy. Which doesn't really accomplish anything, except that I sleep, but it usually isn't restful sleep, which probably doesn't help things in the long run. I was talking to Mandi about this, and mentioned that I'd been dreaming about Utena every night (this is true, I'm not sure if I like it or not) and she said that maybe a Prince would come save me. I said that I didn't know if I'd deal well with a Prince trying to save me at this point, I might panic a little and tell them to go away.

Perseus has a map of usage, which I think is rather interesting. There north east of the US is rather pink, as is rather a lot of Europe, but the bits that are the darkest red are in the Middle East. I couldn't pick out where Santa Fe would be on the map, or Annapolis in particular, but Annapolis is sort of towards the bottom of that northeast section I was talking about earlier.
