Tori's Bloglet

After changing my topic in the middle of the night, I have been trying to work on this paper as much as I can, although I have slept, and went to the poetry thing earlier. I have two pages. I'm really upset with myself, and want to cry and hide and don't know what to do. Everyone has been pointing out that it's a precept paper, most tutors are letting people hand them in by Monday or such, Mr. Schulman is a nice guy, I do have a good excuse, etc., but I'm still pissed off. _

We had to do these horrible translation excersizes in French class, and then rather than just having the papers returned to us, or doing normal paper conferences, we met in groups of four or five and discussed our poems. I was dreading it, as I wasn't particularly proud of my poem, except that I created a form, which I stuck to except for the last stanza, where I failed miserably. But Mr. Larsen liked it, and so did Bill, so that's cool. _

If I were to write my precept paper on Euripides treatment of women, is that likely to turn into a quasi Women's Studies class paper? I do actually think it's an interesting thing to look at, and it's either going to be women, or gods/heroes, and I think I'm more inclined to do women. _

Mr. Kalkavage said he was thinking of doing the Kyrie from Mozart's Mass in C Minor again this year, except he would need a solo. And I don't think there's anyone, not even Mary, here who would sound as good as Eowyn did. _

My sister and I discussed this evening, briefly, Aragorn. I said that while we were doing Roy's Two Towers thing, we got to Eowyn, and I said "who can blame her, really?" And the general consensus was that, no, in fact, none of us could blame her. Jamie said she'd never been been as interested in Aragorn as the rest of us, and she doesn't generally get crushes straight out like that on fictional characters. Her thoughts are generally more of a "gee, I wish I were Lizzy Bennett, cause then I would have Mr. Darcy." Which you can't really do with Aragorn. I mean, who sits out there and wishes they were Tolkien's Arwen? (Not Peter Jackson's, that's not the same at all.) And Eowyn didn't get Aragorn, although Faramir seemed like a good guy for her. _

There's a Star Trek movie coming out this weekend, and then The Two Towers next week, and Fox Trot hasn't touched either. It makes me sad. Jason the geek always makes my happy. _

So, there was mistletoe hanging up in the doorways at the Christmas parties this evening, which mystified Roy, and so Libby and I told him that people kiss under mistletoe, it's a Christmas thing. And he wanted to know why. And we had no idea. I told him it was to celebrate the death of Baldur, which was a bad idea, cause I was joking, but he didn't realize it. _

At some point in the middle of a swing song, Roy asked me if I'd danced ballet. I laughed, and said nine years. And then at midnight I decided to turn into a pumpkin and go back to my room to finish the EPR and read Godel. But I'm at my computer. Ha ha, silly me. _

The woman who is the tutor for the class right before my French class made these cookie-bar-things. She had a bunch leftover, so she gave them to those of us who showed up before our French class showed up. None of us have any idea what her name is. Someone said to Mr. Larsen that he'd made food and brought it in, but it was all gone, and then said he was joking, and the cookies we were eating had been given to us by the tutor right before us, and Mr. Larsen asked who she was, and we couldn't tell him. We tried to explain what she looks like, but he didn't know who she was, at least from our description. _

In our precept tonight we were reading aloud. We decided to take a brief break for Euripides and read a play by Aristophones (The Thesmophorizusai) that had Euripides in it. So, we were sitting there, reading the play. And we get to this point where the character I was reading said "he'll be pedicated?" And, well, I'd never seen that word before in my life, so I read predicated. And Mr. Schulman said, "no, it's pedicated." No one else, other than Mr. Schulman had a clue what that meant, so we asked. He sounded a little embarrassed, or like he was searching for the proper way to say it in a class setting, and said it means buggered. _

It would've been interesting to see them do Arwen in the movies as she is done in the books, in that she is barely a character. As she marries Aragorn in the end, doing flashbacks from the appendices would've been okay. But it would certainly have been interesting for them to have had her sit there and exchange meaningful glances with Aragorn at a feast, and then show up at the end. I don't think they would have, we are too "politically correct" women aren't supposed to be princesses like she is. _

Brianne, Jacob, Katherine and I watched the entire second season of Black Adder this evening. We took a brief break to go upstairs to figure out what they were doing that was making so much noise. (We were thinking clog dancing or something.) It turned out to be almost nothing, when we went up there. People getting ready for their Christmas party. _
