Last night while we watched Gone With the Wind my throat started itching. Horrible nasty, throats should not be allowed to itch, especially not as much as mine was itching last night. This morning I woke up with a fairly sore throat and without the desire for breakfast. I ate half a bagel. Then I went off to work, where I ran food around, which was an odd job, and I'm not entirely sure I like it. Would definately rather be waiting, not running. My mom and my sister came to pikc me up, and we went off to buy me a pair of black pants, cause I needed them for work, and the only pair I had I've gained weight since I last wore them, and they weren't terribly comfortable. I continued to feel sick, getting sicker and sicker the whole time we were in the store, and eventually going out to relax in the car (after I'd picked out pants.) I took my temperature when I got home, and it was 100.5, which is the equivalent for me is 101.5, cause my tempertaure runs at 97.6 instead of 98.6. So I called work, told them I was sick, and they told me to come in when I feel better, and to keep them apprised of whether or not I am sick. _

My sister and I just watched Gone With The Wind. I'd never seen it, so I was curious. I wasn't impressed by it at all. _

I just got a job! One of the seemlingly zillions of restaurants on second street called me up just now and hired me over the phone. They just opened this past Thursday, and they want me to come in tomorrow at nine in the morning. They said they can give me as much work as I want, waiting or running and maybe hostessing. It's Italian. And the guy I was talking to, the chef, used to work with one of the mom's of a little kids who went to my old school, so he knew my old school, and a friend of mine. And Carrie is an awesome cook. _

I was woken at 3 this morning by the sound of rain. It was pouring, and I had my window open. I was lucky, there was either no wind, or it was blowing the rain away from my window, cause nothing gott wet, but I went and closed it anyway. I then heard thunder, realized the computer was on, and came out to turn it off. Got utterly confused by the Start menu in Windows XP. Managed to actually turn the computer off and went back to bed. I was then woken again at 6 by a knock. Not on my door, and I couldn't figure out where from. And then there was another. And another. And then I saw a red thing hit my window and fall. And I realized the crazy cardinal was back. The stupid bird flew into my window over and over and over until I finally actually got up at 10:30. At least once in the course of watching this foolish bird, I thought it was dead. My mom said that when she got home from my brother's soccer tournament, it was flying at a rearview window of the car my stepgrandmother lent us. _

My alarm clock has a battery in it, so it's still set to St. John's time (the bells). This is more than ten minutes ahead of any of the other clocks in my house, which makes getting up this morning interesting.

I am up at 6:30 this morning (or not quite 6:30) because my brother has a soccer tournament this weekend, and my sister and I decided to go for at least one day, and we are going today, not tomorrow, because tomorrow the weather is supposed to be lousy. They said "be up by 6:45 to go to the game" and so I am. _

So, on Monday I went driving around to apply at restaurants, forgetting that, well, it was Monday. I wound up applying at Fridays and going home. Last night I called Fridays, and they said, oh, well, yes, actually, we are looking for servers, asked me things like when I'm available, do I have experience, things like that, while they tried to find my application, which had gone missing, apparently. They said to come in again and fill out a new one, so later this afternoon, when I go to pick up my brother from school, I will go back and fill out a new application. I also called Borders, where the woman who does hiring has been on vacation for a week, so they will probably call me this weekend or early next week. _

My brother's friend Dan, with whom he took a macroeconomics class, has begun reading the Sandman. He'd read the first few Books of Magic, and thought they were the best comics he'd ever read, so he did a search on Neil Gaiman, and then heard of Sandman. He is now borrowing most of mine. _

Jyles moved out this morning, cause he is a doofus. He tells us he is moving to Lucas's house, but none of us really believe him, although we now think that he might be living at Lucas's to try to create a lie that he and Peg aren't an item so she doesn't lose Will. _

I feel a little lost. I finished the something like five books I was reading, except for Livy, who isn't managing to hold my interest, particularly. I haven't a clue what to read next. I thought this evening of reading Herodotus, cause he was fun in my precept, but I couldn't find the book. Packed, somewhere, but who knows where? Then I was going to read The Little Prince cause I never have, but I didn't want to go down to the basement to search through my parents' closet to find it. _

Yesterday my sister drove off to Lancaster to audition for Henry V. The director is a spectacular actor, he played the best Malvolio I've ever seen, and I understand that when they put on The Taming of the Shrew the director said that any part he wanted, he'd get, if he wanted Kate, they'd work it out. He'd called her up to tell her to come out to audition, and to let people know that they should come out. She brought me along, cause we wanted to go to JoAnn Fabric Store together this weekend, cause we'd been told that good patterns were on sale for a dollar. (We were told wrong. Bad patterns were on sale for a dollar.) There was a huge craft fair right off our exit, so big there were cops directing traffic. So we turned, away from where we wanted to be, to get around the park, and then when we got into downtown Lancaster, we got directed away from a parade. We got utterly lost. We showed up, he was happy to see her, and seemed to want me to audition as well. He pretty much told her then and there that she was cast, and that auditioning her was a formality, which is cool. He has editted it rather a lot, he said. Catherine is gone, and so is any reference to Falstaff. My sister is most likely going to be playing the Prince of France, only it will be a Princess of France. And Canterbury. I'm proud of her. _

I started rereading Livy last night. Livy was an odd duck, but I really enjoy him. I found myself, while I was reading, thinking, okay, I'll stop when I get to the next break. But there were no obvious breaks, even when there really ought to have been. I realized that I had gotten to something like Chapter 10 and there were no chapter breaks. Reading along, I was definately sure that I remembered chapter breaks, but then I realized that when I was reading it before, I wasn't in fact reading it in English. _

Yesterday I went to Attack of the Clones. We had loads of fun, despite the fact that we wound up going at 10:30 in the morning. Then I came home, ate lunch, watched Simpsons tapes with my brother, and drove around and filled out job applications. I hate driving around filling out job applications. I want it to be done with already. Then I came home, I bounced on the trampoline with two of my brother's friends and his girlfriend (my brother was at soccer), and talked with Erin, mostly, about Peg e. stress. Connor is no longer allowed to talk about it with the kids from school, apparently not even at home, cause Jim got upset with him about it. Then, sort of spontaneously, we decided to go to Rita's, cause Rita's is yummy, so off we went. And we came home, my mom sort of freaked out about the fact that she did all the dishes (my mom cleans when she is trying not to study), so could I please take all the trash out to the road, so I did. Then we watched Friends and Will and Grace and ER, which was interesting, cause I haven't done that in ages and ages, not since last summer. I enjoy watching those shows immensely. Then when I took Erin home, I took my brother parking lot driving, which was hilarious. His friend Dan wanted me to teach him out to drive stick, but I didn't feel right teaching this guy how to drive stick in my parents' car without telling them first, so I just sort of explained to him stuff about driving stick, and then Connor drove around and stalled a bunch. _

A pedophile is a person with a thing for children, what would be the word for a young person with a thing for someone older than they are? A gerophile? I thought of senatophile, but that sounds like someone with a thing for senators, the root of which is much the same as the root for old man, but nonetheless, that is not at all what I was looking for. Which is why we look to Greek and not Latin... _

I have reread The Ogre Downstairs by Diana Wynne Jones and Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman since I got home. I've been sort of reading The Thief of Time which recently came out in paperback. I want to reread The Little Princess (which is nothing at all like The Little Prince, as I found out when I tried to read The Little Prince when I was little and didn't like it, so I stopped), but I can't find it. It's such a lovely book, too. _

My orchid has started to bloom again. This makes me exceedingly happy. I got it while it was blooming at the beginning of sophomore year, so August. It bloomed through Christmas, then all the flowers died, so following the recomendation as to what to do with an orchid when it was done blooming, I cut off the flowering stem. Sometime around Spring Break this year, a new flowering stem appeared, and was slowly growing up. I sent it (along with all my other plants) home with my sister about a week before I came home. It has sprouted two branches, both of which have buds. One of the buds is completely open, there is another that will be completely open by this evening, and many more that will be open in a week. I am so happy with it. _

Today I went out looking for a job, at least sort of. I went to Borders and Barnes and Noble and I was going to fill out applications there and leave them at the stores, but then I realized that I don't have the address and phone number of my old employers or anyone I would want to put down as references, so I took the applications home. I drove home the long way, so I could look in restaurant windows for help wanted signs, and saw none. I picked up a paper, and no one is advertising for waitresses. I found a few numbers looking for bartenders, you didn't need experience, but they struck me as a little alarming, cause there was only a phone number, it didn't give a restaurant name or anything. Ah well. Tomorrow when I take the applications I picked up today back I'll figure out what else to do. _

My family has, since I was last home, purchased themselves a new computer. I'm not entirely sure how much of it is new; I know the tower is, and the speakers look new. The monitor is definately not, but I'm not sure about the keyboard and mouse. It's all in all very strange. The enter key is oddly positioned, so I keep hitting the back-slash key instead of the enter key, cause the enter key is smaller than I am used to. Our phone lines are shitty, and so we've barely been able to hold an internet connection for more than a few minutes. Windows XP is very odd to me. I was getting used to what we had, and I'm sure there are differences which aren't purely aesthetic, but that's all I can tell at the moment. _
