Ich habe eine Spülmaschine!
Paying a plumber to install it was about half as expensive as paying Sears to pay a plumber to install it. I hope I will now start cooking again. Dishwashers really do make cooking more pleasant.

Sears delivery delivered, but the contractor they called to install didn't appear. I managed to remove the old dishwasher, but having closely examined the situation, I have decided not to undertake amateur plumbing.

I finally watched North by Northwest, which has been my Netflix blockage for quite some time. It's really excellent and pretty and exhausting, and the bit where James Mason makes fun of Cary Grant's overacting almost completely made up for it having Cary Grant in it. And Martin Landau was young once!

Original and Manderin. Mr. Findler introduced me to the cover many years ago, but until today, I was unaware of the original.
Update: They also have her Duck song!

I was unaware that the Pixies had a cover of Head On. Now that I have heard it I feel more at peace not liking them while liking some of their songs. His singing bugs me, in a way not unlike the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Maybe I just don't like Boston bands.

In vaguely related news, I have been reading about Lord Rumford. I found out about him because in Northanger Abbey, Catherine is disappointed by the Rumford fireplace in the abbey. Born in Woburn, he was a royalist who ended up in England after the war. In addition to fireplaces, He is responsible for a apparently horrible soup, drip coffee pots, a park in Munich, thermal underwear, and the undermining of caloric theory through a not particularly rigorous experiment.
