Salatan makes the analogy between how I feel about research into racial differences and how the mass of Christians feel about evolution. This had never occured to me before. I think these people are trying to undermine one of the articles of faith that keeps society functioning, and I don't think scientific curiousity is a good enough reason. People feel exactly the same way about evolution and the divine nature of man. Now, I think I'm right and they're wrong, of course, but it's a bit surprising to see the thing from the other side. Moreover, the article of faith I'm guarding is a pretty new invention, sure, he quotes the Declaration, but really it's a response to the horrors of WWII. Their article of faith in the divine nature of man goes all the way back. Now, I think pointing to the atrocities of racist ethnic nationalism is slightly more impressive than pointing to the harm done by forsaking the divine in man, but that's just me, and they could probably lay claim some of the same atrocities that I can. And certainly, belief in racial differences doesn't actually imply traditional racism all that strongly. It's necessary but not sufficient, in the same way not believing in the Divine Plan is necessary but not sufficient for the nasty manifestations of nihilism that have cropped up. _

This afternoon, someone sent an email to the teleworker distribution list, asking how to add a new employee. Then, about an hour ago, someone sent an email asking to be removed from the list. Since then I've got 37 more emails. It's running about 2 to 1, unsubscribe requests to requests for people to stop responding to all. I got 4 emails while typing this up (all stop requests) And this meltdown started at 6pm. Tomorrow is going to be insane.

Update: There are 3,534 people on that distribution list. Now accepting guesses on the final number of emails received on the topic between now and Thursday. There may even be a prize. _

hoagie rolls
Based on the Buttermilk bread recipe in Beard on Bread dissolved Tbl sugar and Tbl yeast in 1/2 cup warm water, threw in bread machine with 4 cups bread flour, 3 Tbl butter, 1 1/4 buttermilk, Tbl salt, set it on dough, take it out, knead, divide into 6, roll them into, um, rolls, put them in a greased pyrex brownie pan, let rise again, bake at 375 for 20 minutes, turn them out, break them up seperately and throw them back in the oven for another 8 minutes loose.

Soon, there will be homemade cheesesteaks. _
