On our way back from the beach, we got a bit lost in Somerville, and drove past a large Nishan Sahib, flying alone on a flagpole. There's something unnerving about a large flag you don't recognize flying alone. I feel better now that I know what it is. I'm not sure why it was a bit creepy, the way a steeple or dome isn't. I think it's just that flags are essentially military.

Why have some things crept out of the legal system and infested regular discourse? Innocent until proven guilty is an admirable systemic legal safeguard, but in everyday life it's intentional idiocy. Similarly, your right to free speech doesn't mean I can't tell you to shut up.

This morning's bird is a fledgling cardinal following it's mother around making sets of three rapid squeaks. Ooh, and there's the male. I really need to make this work at home thing work. Ending up back in a cubicle because I couldn't concentrate at home would be deeply tragic. I must fetter my soul to an office stool.

While starting in a corner or an edge is more likely to start a cascade in minesweeper, that cascade is going to be less valuable than one in the middle. So if you're going for time and not winning percentage, you're better off clicking around in the middle until you get a good cascade. You'll die more often, but they'll be quick deaths. I just got 194 on advanced. I'm starting to think maybe my memory of getting 99 seconds once in high school isn't faulty. The world record is apparently under a minute.
