Things that I did not know existed: log-splitters. They come in various sizes, but they're all more or less a jack that pushes the log up against a sharp wedge. I find the concept depressingly mechanical and lacking the disproportionate amounts of kinetic energy one associates with the task.

This is just bizarre. Someone wants to discuss a project that I worked on last summer. Not only do I not remember anything about it, I didn't even remember that it existed. In my initial e-mail response, I claimed not to have worked on it; then I read the e-mails she had attached, which I'd written. Disturbing. It looks like I did a substantial amount of work on it. Reviewed literuture, designed measures, ran reports. The billing system says I spent 50 hours on it, mostly over 7 days. I clearly need new memory.

buds before shed
Is this a redbud? I don't know. It has red buds, but I'm not sure if that's sufficient.
