There are far more scratches on my right lens. My theory is that this is because I take my glasses off with my left hand. Can anyone confirm this pattern? Though perhaps most people don't fling their glasses with such vigor.

WBUR, my NPR station, is reshuffling. The Connection, the more thoughtful and professional of the two interview shows, is being cancelled, and Dick Gordon fired. I mean, he was Canadian. You can't fire Canadians, can you? They're putting On Point in it's slot, which is all right, but doesn't ask such good questions, and has a windbag of an analyst. Here and Now, with the thoughtless, unprofessional Robin Young, will become more of a local news program. They're adding Marketplace Money, which is good, at least, I like Marketplace. They're moving Fresh Air to 7pm. I'll have to try Open Source on WGBH.
The odd bit is that they haven't announced that The Connection has been cancelled. It just suddenly went to reruns, and they started talking about their new schedule. It took me several days to realize it was the one left without a chair. Their documentary unit has been shut down as well, but that's no real loss.
This certainly has nothing to do with the Republican takeover of NPR. The Connection was the least biased show they produced. Change is upsetting. Grumble.

The next question, I suppose, are what are my issues? (As opposed to ideas I've heard that sound vaguely sensible, or things I can be manipulated into outrage over) What do I feel government is doing wrong, or badly, or should be doing, or might do and should be prevented so doing?
Abolish the senate and electoral college. Government transparency. Curtailing government corruption: Maybe a nationally elected, proportional body where the senate, so someone puts the nation before the constituency (pork). Line item vetos are good, too.
Sort out our new rights, and amend the constitution to put them in. Expand the power of federal government, then draw a bright line around it. Put in a well defined right to privacy, so that we can finally drop this commerce clause gibberish and substantive due process nonsense and I can stop agreeing with Scalia. A constitution is a very good idea. We should have one. By pragmatically expanding and contracting rights as the need arises, we've shattered the old one.
Global citizenship. This means free trade, while not tolerating anarchy, slavery or tyranny. It does not in any way mean the U.N. The world is made up of people, not nations, (or peoples, for that matter). Nations have no rights, only the people in them. A dislike of cultural preservationists.
Health care reform. In particular, get employers out of the business entirely. Not sure where it should go instead; possibly geographically based collectives, or maybe a single payer system for very basic services.

This troubles me.
Let us say that most people in politics have an Issue. Their issue determines their choice of party. On other issues, they want their party to win, regardless of what the right policy answer might be. This leads to thinking of this sort., where party loyalty becomes more important than policy. This means that no one in government is trying to actually govern the country, they're just playing tug-of-war with the steering wheel. I'm not putting this well. It makes a kind of sense, but makes me feel vaguely ill. I was thinking about this before I saw that post, it's everywhere.
Theory: People who care passionately about an issue tend to be wrong, because their passion takes them beyond the facts and complications. Normally, democracy handles this fairly well, but the party system means people side with their allies, even when they think they're wrong, hence all the shouting. People shout for their issue, and look vaguely embarrassed on all the others.

That's it. This was a double post. I am completely incapable of posting pictures correctly the first 5 times, and this often leads to double posts. I have nothing to say. I suppose I could tell you about my monitor ants. They're about two pixels big, and like running about on the monitor. I think they might be red, or partly red, but it's hard to tell.
