Why isn't there an SSN interpreter that asks for the first 5 digits, and guesses where and when you were born?

Hmm. I have a Connecticut SSN, despite having lived in Pennsylvania the first 18 months of my life. I'll have to ask my parents about this.
The distribution of SSN prefixes for states shows the rapid growth of the southeast quite tidily. Florida started with 7 million SSN's, and has been given and extra 7 million twice since. Connecticut started with 10 million, and has been just fine.

Letting the cat go outside when it's pouring rain is amusing. He went, hid under a bush, gave up, jumped back on the porch, then tried running down the front steps, only to come to a skidding halt when he realized it was raining on that side too.

3 1/2 hour lunches just make the day fly right by. On the other hand, now at least I know what my boss looks like.

Rick Santorum bothers me. I saw him speak, when I was in high school and he was running for the senate for the first time. He was speaking to the AMA. His main campaign pledge seemed to be the abolishing of speeding tickets for doctors, who are far to important to drive safely. Glib, that's what he is. I have a fair amount of respect for piety. He doesn't smell pious, but glib and opportunistic. This bit about acedemics being the root of the church sex scandals is precisely the sort of thing. I'm not sure what my point is. Bush doesn't bother me in nearly the same way. Kerry did, a little bit. Grandstanding insincerity? Excessive will to power? I'm not sure what to call it.

Non-stick skillets: The one's we've had have never lasted more than a few years before becoming stick. Is this because we don't spend enough? Is the $50 dollar kitchenAid skillet only going to last a third as long as the Williams and Sonoma $150 dollar skillet? Is my thrift self-defeating?
Granted, I'm willing to pay $150 dollars for a pair of shoes that only lasts a few years, but I use my shoes more often than I use a skillet. A skillet is more or less a small piece of metal that has to be able to warm up and cool down. It has no moving parts.

A Magnetic Fields Carnegie Hall concert on NPR, real audio. Slightly dopey commentary/interview. All acoustic and quiet, lots of ukelele.
I was Born
Chicken with it's head cut off
I don't believe you
All my little words
I don't love you anymore
All the umbrella's in London (slowed down)
My evil twin
All I want to know (From Pieces of April)
A pretty girl
Smoke and Mirrors
Book of Love
If there's such a thing as love
Papa was a rodeo
I'm tongue-tied
Yeah, oh yeah!
I Die
Also also, My Life as a Fairy Tale, Chen Shi-Zheng opera based on life and work of Hans Christian Anderson, with music & lyrics by Stephin Merritt, July 27, 29 and 30, Lincoln Center Festival. I may need to go.
