Disadvantages of bicycles: with a car, if you grab the wrong set of keys, you realize your mistake before you get to work. Also, much more difficult to leave your rear view mirror at home with a car. Finally, a decent segment of the driving population seems to fly into a rage at the mere sight of a bicycle in traffic.

Because I brought my umbrella, I find myself hoping for rain on the way home.

Tablespoons per mile would be a dramatic improvement over miles per gallon. When choosing a car, the miles travelled isn't a variable. People don't go in thinking 'My gas allowance is X, let's see how far I can get on that!' but rather, 'how much gas will this guzzle?' The difference in fuel consumption between 15 and 18 mpg (2.84 tbsp/m) is greater than the difference between 26 and 36 mpg (2.74 tbsp/m).

Magnetic Fields Concert:
Andrew Bird opened; he had some sort of foot-operated sequencer, and would keep adding loops of plucked or bowed violin until it turned into a song. The songs weren't anything special; alternating between 2nd rate Radiohead and 3rd rate Paul Simon. 1st rate whistler. Was quite enjoying it, but overstayed his welcome by a song or two.
The first evidence of Stephin Merritt was when he (I think it was him) peeked around the curtain to look at the audience, before the lights went down. Claudia asked the audience to snap, instead of clap, because Stephin is having difficulty with loud noises, apparently. This worked quite well for a while, and is very neat, but snapping gets downright difficult after an hour or so, and snapping enthusiastically simply isn't possible. Stephin sat on the right side of the stage, with the cellist and guitarist occupying center stage, and Claudia on the left at the piano. He played ukelele all evening. Occasionally the guitar was exchanged with a banjo.
Songs:
I was born
Love goes down to paris in the spring
Come back from san francisco (sung by Stephin)
I don't really ove you anymore
I looked all over town
I thought you were my boyfriend
I wish I had an evil twin
Dreams anymore
Acoustic guitar
With whom to dance
Irma
I don't believe you
One April Day
All I want to know
As you turn to go
the one you really love
Papa was a rodeo
It's only time
Infinitely late at night
yeah oh yeah
I die
Reno Dakota
All my little words
Theatrical highlights: During Papa was a Rodeo, a mirror ball was lowered, and the reflections off it looked like a thousand swirling eyes.
During Yeah oh Yeah, Stephin would hide various places during the verses, and pop out for the chorus.
