Learning to hear where the '1' is in a song has made editing tracks for Air Guitar Madness much easier. I did learn something in college! Thanks Zuckerkandl

Just in case you were wondering, the first night of Air Guitar Madness had some hiccups and weird patches, but overall it was a giant ball of awesome.
Magnificent Bloodstep (aka Clinton) rocks the house.
Super-special thanks to my friends Ted and Matthew for taking pictures during the show!

This is a great post on letterpress typography and making a book cover. The Art Department is one of my favorite blogs because it's a direct look into a job I'd love to have, and it often has posts like this that are great examples of the collision of practicality and aesthetics that embodies art direction.

So Gorilla Artfare has become one of my daily stops. It's an art blog for, I dunno, 100 people? And the vast majority of it is excellent and fun.
It's depressing, in a way. A lot of the images they post are just sketches and experiments, like this one. That's just 'tossed off'? Wow.
May be a little NSFW, as there are occasional nudes.

Locals or people who would like to come to town this weekend for a rockin' time, DSIF8, one of the largest improv festivals in the world, is happening this week from Tuesday-Thursday. Come out and see some of the finest improvisors in the world rocking at the top of their chops.
I'll be performing with my excellent ensemble Proletariat Princess on Thursday at 7pm. The teach I coach (who are awesome), Extraordinary Rendition, will be performing on Tuesday at 8pm. I'll mostly be at the DSI Comedy Theater, and I hope to see some friendly faces this weekend!

Saw There Will Be Blood with my gaming buddies tonight. We were a man down, and we remaining three hadn't seen it yet.
Wow. Just. Wow.
Three people were at the top of their game to make this movie. PT Anderson has created a masterwork, tight, controlled, and effective from start to finish. Daniel Day-Lewis gives perfect, beautiful, monstrous life to Daniel Plainview, a man who lies and hates and wins and never forgets. Finally, Johnny Greenwood's score gives the movie a pulsing, screeching, gorgeous tension, working perfectly with all the other aspects.
It's a movie where there are no heroes, just a central character and the path he blazes through those around him, and it's incredible.

One of my favorite RPGs, In a Wicked Age, is finally getting published! I can't tell you how excited I am. The promo text is not an empty promise.
In this wicked age...
...Gods, demons and mortals contend with one another for power...
...Law and civilization are new, and no one is their master...
...A simple midwife can set in motion the downfall of tyrants and great empires...
...Your birth is not yours to choose, but your fate is what you make it.

This is a crazy-good piece of animation, with a cutesy braveheart-style battle, great visual panache, and peace through psychedelia. Being a Zune ad doesn't hurt it in the slightest.

Mmmmm, a semi-affordable Cintiq! I love my Wacom tablet, but I would set it on fire in a second if I had a grand to drop on this.
(Just for reference, the old 21-inch Cintiq was $2500)

Just a provisional thought that I need to think about more, but what I get out of improv, and what I get out of theater, and what I get out of roleplaying are completely different. So much so that the thought of one being equivalent to the other is kind of heartbreaking.
They all have pieces that are related, yes, but those pieces are assembled so radically differently that it's like comparing an electric bandsaw to an automobile.
It may also be that, as a player, director, or actor I lack the perspective to see how all of these activities are one. I hope they aren't, though.
