The Comics Journal interviews Ralph Steadman. These .mp3's are Comics Journal editor and hothead Gary Groth speaking with artist/cartoonist Steadman, know for his work with Hunter S. Thompson among others. (I can't comment on the quality, but I'm downloading the first segment now). _

James Kochalka! Talentless hack? Mad Genius? Sick-o Prophet? I dunno, but there's an interesting discussion of his Frog-With-A-Boner epic, Fancy Froglin over at the Modern Tales Message Boards. Also, his more-accessible, daily, Sketchbook Diaries are over at americanelf.com. I'm firmly in the 'Mad Genius' camp, but your mileage may vary. _

Viz Communications is going to startselling Shonen Jump, the most popular manga anthology in Japan, in the US! The bad news is that it will all be old comic serials like Dragonball Z and Yugi-Oh. Dang, I was hoping for some unknown series as well. Still, five bucks for 250 pages is an interesting gamble. _

Rockstar Game is a fun little game that will have you spending a couple minutes on it every day. You get more points every 3 hours, and they accrue over time. If you sign up, please paste this in the 'referrer' section (yes, I know, if you find it morally repugnant, don't do it):

I've run into two beautiful pieces of art this week. The first was reading The Demolished Man, which Andrew recommended a long time back and I just got around to reading. Tense, taught, completely insane, with a vicious energy that dares you to continue reading. It's a 'look inside the mind of the killer' book, but so well written, with such absorbing characters that even in a genre-genre piece (SF mystery) it works.

The other was watching Donnie Darko tonight. This is the sort of exploration of schizophrenia that I was expecting from A Beautiful Mind. Was it real? Was it made up in a dying mind? It doesn't matter! And the great thing is that the movie isn't just about madness and/or time travel, but family, growing up, love, and society. It does it all beautifully. A film that moves and breathes. Exhausting to watch, but incredibly rewarding.

I feel better now. _

Can you tell where my concern recently has been? I haven't even mentioned that in the last week I've gone to two band practices with this dude Roy. It's been fun. I've been learning just how limited a drummer I am, but it ain't no big thing. I mean, there are plenty of great bands out there with drummers that could only be described as 'adequate'. right? Right? ::crickets:: _

The Keenspace maitenance people sent out an e-mail to the effect of 'our server's hardrive is going to die any second now, be sure to FTP anything you don't want to lose off of it in the near future.'

Of course, Keenspace has been down pretty much all day. They might as well just send a little .wav file with someone shouting 'You're Fucked!' along with their helpful little note. _

Soul Calibur . . . so addictive. Hydro Thunder is fun, but the true crack-like sheen is reserved for the king of fighters on Dreamcast. There will be additional tweaks when I am more awake, but this is pretty much what it will look like.
