Is it wrong to want to dump a bucket of flaming oil on a guy who, every five or ten minutes, since midnight, and for the past two and a half hours, shouts, 'GO DAWGS! WHOOOOOOOOO!' at the top of his lungs to no one in particular? _

From the 'TV in the early morning is evil' department:

I saw a man wearing one of those silver hazard suits with the heavily tinted eye windows. He had a big blowtorch. Another man was trying to guess which of his possessions his wife hated more. When he guessed one, the man with the blowtorch would burn it. If he guessed correctly, another man, dressed as a policeman, would give the guessing man money. _

I can't believe I'm reading something called G2mil: The magazine for Future Warfare, but of all the arguments I've heard, this fellow seems to have some convincing, if not terribly pleasant, ideas about how to handle the war in Afganistan. There's more Afganistan stuff at the bottom of the page on the first link. It's interesting to see an anti-isolationist, anti-military industrial complex, but pro-military guy, and all the contradictions it embodies. Plus, he pokes fun at Tom Clancy, which is always good. Just saw Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, the movie production. Although the direction was quite good, and the acting flawless, I still don't like it. I laughed a few times, mostly at Tim Curry's expressions, and the Puppets being watched by the Dumb Play being watched by R&G was very good (and obviously where the SJC production came from, alas), but the play is just so . . . full of it's own intelligence. _

Robyn Hitchcock on Dr. Who and the Beatles:

The Beatles were something everyone had in common; this was thirty years ago, there was Dr. Who and everybody knew who the Daleks were and there was The Beatles and everybody knew who George Harrison was.

Jon Lovitz. Jon MOTHER-FUCKING Lovitz. God-damn Jon Lovitz. I've been trying to think of his name for a week. A WEEK! That's how much of a loser I am, I've been trying to think of a bad comic's name for a week. I can name movies he's been in, television shows, I've been seeing him constantly on NewsRadio, so did I look up his name on imdb? NO! I just let the little nagging, "who the hell is that guy, I know his name is Jon, and I know his last name begins with an L. John Landis, Jon Lackow, John Leguizamo, John Larroquette, John Lithgow . . . AIGH! Too much time on my hands. _

Blogletnovelists. Many of you (well, two of you) may have noticed that the blog is not the greatest place post an ongoing, espisodic story. Mr. Moss (as he is affectionately known around his Dialectic Treehouse) has set up a perfectly good wiki, which, while it might not hold to the letter of Ms. Nehring's challenge, certainly holds to the spirit. The Baron could certainly be made to accomodate a few novels, short stories, or random episodes, and any life there is good life.

The wiki has quite a few advantages:
1. It's editable.
2. No word limit (for those at St. John's)
3. Your story won't be read in backwards order.

So give it a try and while you're at it, why not finish up some of the stories you started so long ago? _

Low energy and a missing player hurt the game tonight, but we trooped on! I also tried to straighten out combat with Jarad and Moss afterwards and I think I've come to a solution that is both beautiful and fairly quick. Noth that there's going to be bunches of combat, but whatever. _

Just a note here: I am trying to start a new Over the Edge game. All are invited. Over the Edge is a game of High Weirdness and Conspiracies on a small Mediterranean Isle. Anything can happen . . . and often does. Character generation is very simple and the game emphasizes roleplaying, adventure, and character over number crunching. The games will run between two and three hours and be played once a week. E-mail me if interested, or just respond below. _

Is it okay that I have no desire to learn under any of the program authors? I've already had one of my heroes crushed by working under him (he's a freaky little megalomaniacal control fiend) and I don't think that any of the inflated heads on the program would fare much better. Most of them irritate me just with the personal touches in their writing, I couldn't imagine actually spending time with them. No, their black thoughts on white paper will be enough for me . . . _

Saw "Rear Window" this evening. It was really good! I enjoyed it immensely, Hitchcock really was a genius.

Then I GMed another session of the Over The Edge gam, and it went swimmingly once again. Played it similarly but it ended up with a different feel, and I did horrible things to Neil's character. However, everyone involved had a really good time, so I look forward to playing again on Monday. It wasn't a fluke! It really is a good way to play RPG's. _

Don't know how I feel about a modern, overtly religious play being put on at SJC, but still, I think that if they pull of a musical, or even if they get to the point where it's presentable, it will be one hell of an accomplishment. Good luck folks. _

I think I just had an epiphany. I have not found the way ALL Roleplaying games should be played, but I have found the way I should play all Roleplaying Games. IRC main screen, each player with a little AIM pipeline so I can feed them individual notes, rolls, or clues. It gives me an incredible amount of flexibility and no one knows when I'm passing notes to players. Also, if the players are into it, and get into character and just sort of let the world slide up around them and roleplay in the dead spots while I'm looking something up, as they did this evening (thanks Moss, Mirabai, and Jarad!) it borders on euphoric how much fun it is. I only expected to play till one. We didn't stop until three. I am very, very happy. _
