We were going to go grocery shopping a couple of hours ago, but Moss said he needed to make a list of stuff first. In light of that, I pulled out the Dance Dance Revolution mat for a quick game while I waited. Next thing I knew we were in versus mode, and now... well we still haven't been to the store, and I have this feeling I ought to shower and change first. The exciting thing is that I have improved quite a bit in the last week. I was playing old versions and just tonight came back to the one we've always had. I can do several songs that I couldn't pass at all before, and even managed a few of the easier songs in difficult mode. Very exciting. And now I need water. _

Now that all the guesses are guessed, I can safely present you with The Very Silly Video for "Pop Goes My Heart", which is an 80s style synthpop song that they made Hugh Grant do a video for in the movie Music and Lyrics.

And while I am linking to video, why not see the very low quality video for "Move It Like This" by K7? I suspect the video is full of unfortunate sexist things, but this song has stuck in my head since it was popular on local radio when I was in middle school, and I have to say, I like it. _

Guess the quotes. No googling. Prizes for all winners.

1. I think I saw you in an ice cream parlor, drinking milkshakes cold and long. 2 points to Tim "Five Years" by David Bowie
2. Because I am a gentleman, think of me as just your friend, who remembers every dress you ever wore. 2 points to Tim again. "I Don't Really Love You Anymore" by the Magnetic Fields
3. "And what is Hell? Can you tell me that?"
"A pit full of fire."
"And should you like to fall into that pit, and to be burning there forever?"
"No, sir."
"What must you do to avoid it?"
I deliberated a moment; my answer, when it did come, was objectionable: "I must keep in good health and not die."
2 points to Moi. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.
4. A twist of fate makes life worthwhile. You are gold and silver. 2 points to Moss. "Pop Goes My Heart" from the movie Music and Lyrics.
5. The heart has gone. We've just got roses left. 2 points to Moss! "God Knows" by Thea Gilmore.
6. "Listen, you might want to pack a few of your things before going to bed. The former bishop of Turkey will be coming tonight along with six to eight black men. They might put some candy in your shoes, they might stuff you in a sack and take you to Spain, or they might just pretend to kick you. We don't know for sure, but we want you to be prepared." 1 to Liz and 1 to Mira. "Six to Eight Black Men" by David Sedaris.
7. No point mentioning those bats, I thought. The poor bastard will see them soon enough. 2 points to K. Fear and Loathing in las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson.
8. I do admit to myself that if I hurt someone else, I'll never see just what we're meant to be. And still 2 more points to Tim. "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order.
9. I went into an alehouse I used to frequent, and I told the landlady me money was spent. 1 to Mira. "Wild Rover" is a traditional Irish ballad.
10. (Double bonus points as this one went unguessed last time) I love the way you look at me, I love your smile. Why don't you come and talk to me just for a while? Give me your love, oh give me your love. 1 point to Moss (because he shouldn't qualify for the double bonus on this one) "Move it Like This" by K7. _

Observations:

1) Today is very grey and gloomy.

2. The Breakfast Club is infinitely better than Pretty in Pink.

3. Tiredness produces bizarre dreams. Last night's was about a television show called "Instant Cooking with Rudy Giuliani" in which the host taught us how to make Coffee with Onions. The recipe was to mix one cup of coffee with a medium sized sauteed, diced onion and 2 cloves of sauteed, minced garlic.

4. Some might reasonably call that sort of dream a nightmare. _

So far today I have played a bunch of DDR (I beat that Fallout Boy song in basic mode for the first time ever! 3 times! And I beat "DoLL" by Terra with a B!), fed and watered the cat (including the greenies that are good for her teeth), watered the plants, tidied up a bit, cleaned the counters and sink, washed the dishes, cleaned the litter box, and finished reading The Android's Dream by John Scalzi.

"Great," I thought a few minutes ago. "Now it's time to write!" But then as I stared at my Word documents with no inspiration for either writing or revising, I felt very cranky and like maybe there was still something else I was supposed to take care of. Another chore, an important one. I couldn't think what it was, so I started going over and over what I had done, and looking at the chore list on Chore Wars until finally it came to me: What I have not done today is eat anything. And so the battle of remembering to eat lunch (and breakfast, or even just a snack) continues. Now I will have a bowl of soup. Then I will write. _

Night before last I found catsick for the first time since the kitty came to stay with us. I was fortunate enough to find it by putting my hand directly in it as I was getting into bed. Yecch. But I cleaned it up and rubbed the spot with cleaner and then yesterday morning I washed the comforter, pretreated the stain area, etc. And all was well. Until last night when I went to bed and found catsick (at least not by putting my hand in it this time) at the other end of the comforter. Sigh. I am about to wash the comforter again. I really hope it's the last time in a good while that I will have to do this... Meanwhile the cat is like, "Mrow! Why are you taking the comforter off of my bed!? Mrow!" _

I found my favorite photographer through a LiveJournal community called kitty pix quite some time ago. He had these adorable orange twin kittens at the time, Wiggles and Wiggles. Later, I found out that he was just fostering them, and the wiggles (as they were collectively called) eventually found a new loving home, but Kyle Cassidy kept adopting and fostering new cats and kittens.

Sometimes they were incredibly sweet cats (like Roswell, who always shows up to eat human food), and sometimes they were not terribly sweet (like Momcat, who regularly appeared in photos looking like she was ready to kill you with her laser eyes if only the lasers weren't on the fritz), but Kyle always seemed to love them all no matter what. At some point I was so taken with his cat pictures that I went to investigate his normal journal, and found out he was my favorite photographer.

Aside from cat pictures, he'll often post pictures of bands, politicians, people who appear to be levitating, really cool closeups of bugs, gun owners, war veterans and all manner of other things. But he still posts pictures of his cats. A lot. Which is totally endearing. And sometimes he talks about yet another injured stray he's found and tried to help out. The latest of these is Bing, the Christmas kitten who isn't dead! If you have money just waiting to be spent, and you love cats, you could do much worse than to donate to Kyle's Bing fund, but even if you don't have money it's still worth looking at the adorable kitten. Unless you hate cats, in which case I'm not sure we can be friends.

Also if you are still hunting for Christmas presents for the hard to shop for someone in your life, you might consider picking up a copy of Armed America, which is full of great pictures and fascinating glimpses into the lives of American gun owners. Now I will stop with the advertising. I swear Kyle Cassidy is not paying for this blog post. I wrote it of my own free will just cause he's a good person and I think his photos are neat. _

Apparently the cat likes Grape Nuts

The cat doesn't usually like human food. She's also very picky about cat food. Wet food is an abomination, for instance. So we're rather nonchalant about leaving food out on counters and such, because she never looks twice at things like Christmas cookies and so forth. Today, however, we have discovered quite by accident the sole meeting of human and cat food, that great cosmic convergence called Grape Nuts. I had no sooner set down my bowl after a leisurely breakfast in bed, than the cat looked up, sniffed, and yes, actually began to lick the bowl clean! Obvious Logical Conclusion: Grape Nuts tastes like dry cat food. Any volunteers willing to test this in a blind study? _

We have officially started to decorate for Christmas. The cat finds this troublesome as the process takes away from the required lavishment of attention upon her divine fluffiness. She's not nearly as put out by our holiday decorating as this cat, though. (And I can't blame that cat in the slightest. Seriously, who would do such a thing? Waste of perfectly good sugar!)

In other cat-related Christmas news, we received our first Christmas card at this address today, and it has a cat on it! Thank you, Tania! _

I really like the Amy's Tuscan Bean and Rice and Vegetable Barley soups, so I thought I ought to explore some of the other flavors. Note to self in the hopes that I'll remember it before buying another can: the Minestrone is bland and slimy! You don't like it!

In other news, the cat, who thinks all human food is icky, still feels the need to stick her nose in my soup. Mmm, bland, slimy, and now with bits of cat fur! _
