Julia's Bloglet

What books did you like to read as a child? Did you read any "trash"? What kind? Why did you like it? What do you read now? _

Got home from work to a message on the answering machine from Moss's father:

"Moss, next time you want to blog something controversial and start a heated debate, I suggest going with the Israeli/Palestinian thing. It's less inflammatory and probably causes more loss of life."

This is one reason I enjoy Moss's father. _

In case the pictures didn't make it obvious, we're in Southern California at the moment visiting my mother and Disneyland and other SoCal attractions (like my cat!) with Aarika. We left Friday night and will head back Northwards tomorrow.

Disneyland was fun (we got to see Tanya! and the Columbia, which is the sister ship to the one she'll be scrambling about tying ropes and things for next week), but the neatest thing we saw there doesn't look very impressive on the poorly focused, low-res cameraphone photo I managed to blog, alas. If you scroll down a bit, you'll see Asimo, the walking robot Honda made. We got to see a demonstration of him talking, walking, dancing, playing soccer and climbing up and down stairs. Very exciting. Moss got a good picture of him walking down the stairs, so that'll be posted to the gallery sometime after we get back home. He's got 26 servo motors to give him fairly human balance and mobility at a speed of one mile per hour. What this means in layman's talk is that he walks just like I did the week after I finished the Portland Marathon. I wanted to give him an ice pack and some advil because I could imagine exactly which robotic muscles were sore.

Now off to do more things. Today is "get the windshield seal fixed so it stops leaking and then see if the awful tea shop that opened in January has gone out of business or not" day. I hope you celebrate accordingly wherever you may be. _

Aarika: Heeeee. I will do the claps. And have the clap. Tragically.
me: You can't have the clap! This is a vaguely children's-esque story! No VD allowed!
Aarika: Awwww. Okay, I'll just DO the claps.

This may be the silliest story I've ever written. And that's saying something. _
