It's the time of the see-ee-son for cookies! (Still not a a Christmas carol, you'll notice. I suppose I could fix it by turning on RTL2 and hearing that Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart song. I'm sure they're playing it like every five minutes.)

Don't know why or how, but have somehow managed to get "Surrey With the Fringe on Top" stuck in my head.
Didn't realize it until a moment ago, when I saw we were low on toilet paper and thought, "Oh, should get some more... The dashboard's genuine leather... Maybe when Moss is done at work I'll pick him up and swing by the store? ... Real glass windows you can roll right down, in case there's a change in the weather... Must finish wrapping presents and making packages first so can also stop by post office tonight, too... Ducks and geese and sheep gonna scurry... Wait, shouldn't I have Christmas Carols... When I take you out in the surrey... in my head? ... When I take you out in the Surrey ... Not showtunes? ... With the Fringe... Seriously, now ... On top!"
Charming, no? It still hasn't (Drapes are yellow, the upholstery's brown...) stopped.

We requested our mail hold to end on the third, but after having received nothing for three days after that I figured the bundle was too big for our box and that I'd need to pick it up at the post office. We waited in line for ten minutes only to be told to go to a different distribution center, where, upon our arrival, we were told that our carrier had our mail and would deliver it this afternoon. He did. Half an hour wasted. Blah. And I was all set to feel productive today.
On a different and more charitable note, The Katrina Victim Secret Santa Donation Project looks interesting.
And finally, Art & Letters Daily led me to an article apparently written just for Martinikins.

Everyone keeps asking for Christmas lists. My ears are popping and unpopping every few seconds. Perhaps I will feel more human tomorrow. I saved out my pink shirt to wear to work so that it will match my hair. Pictures to follow eventually.

That more or less worked. Still a disaster in here, but the critical debris has been cleared for tonight. I believe I shall stop now and acquire American Day supplies. Also Easy Cheese, which Cait actually wants for some reason.

Today was lovely with rain and sun and autumn leaves falling all at once. On the way home I met one of the neighborhood cats, an impossibly soft and fluffy male tabby with expressive, pale green eyes and a chipped right ear (possibly a Maine Coon or a Norwegian Forest Cat). We had a brief talk and some scritches before I came home. Now I am off to write with some local NaNoKids. Late as usual.

Last time there was an election we bought a big package of number 2 pencils. Now that a new election has come upon us we still have the majority of the pencils, but none which are sharpened, and no sharpener in sight. This permanent absentee business is quite demanding, but I don't know how not to be on the list unless I skip an election... I'm sure it just requires forms or phone calls, but I'm too lazy to work it out.

So I'm buying some stuff from an e-bay seller who will combine shipping on all auctions within four days. I have three items and today is the third day of my four, but the site which supposedly has his checkout page on it is down. He says that he doesn't do customer service at al on Saturday or Sunday. Monday will be the fifth day... I could pay through ebay's paypal link, but I would pay shipping three times. If I go through him I save eight dollars. Do you think he will understand the extra day of waiting because of the site being down?

So here's the deal: I've just made three mixes, and I am more than happy to share. I'm also in a mood to hear whatever other people are listening to if they're ready to share. If you're not ready to make a mix, but would like one of mine, that's cool. I am hereby opening this comment thread to people who wish to contribute or just get some free mixes. Two are linked below, and a third is not quite done. You may request any/all of them as you please.

The good news is that I feel like I might actually be up for walking to the library and back. The bad news is that the local library appears to have none of the books I wish to take out. I can order many of them from other libraries in Sonoma County, but even those books which the county has thirteen or more copies of do not reside in Healdsburg. Grumble. So the question is: do I spend 6 dollars on the Journal of Southern History article available for instant download on Amazon (instant gratification!), drive to Santa Rosa and get the few books they have in that I want (not exactly instant gratification, but same day gratification... only with an annoying drive...), go to the Healdsburg library and request the books I want to be sent (not instant gratification in any way, but only a pleasant walk involved), or some combination of the three?

Back. Left hamstring started to get a bit sore around mile 9 and is more sore now, but not too bad. Right ankle in not so hot shape after I tripped on the sidewalk just after the 24 mile marker. Didn't trip hard, but after walking 24 miles my ankle wasn't terribly strong. I think the jar did more damage than I initially felt. Hoping for full recovery on both bad spots in a few days with RICE. Toenails tender, but still optimistic about the possibility of them staying attached. Blisters horrid, but time should heal. Rest of body minorly sore in a very expected way; doesn't really feel bad at all. Without blisters and injuries I would be fully functional for normal day to day stuff right now.
I still can't believe I did it. Going in I really wasn't sure I'd pull it off. After mile 13 I thought I was probably going to have to pack it in pretty quickly. What kept me going really was the promise of being able to see Moss and Trixie and MFC at mile 18. I though I would have to tell them to just take me home, but it turned out that mile 18 was just over the St. John's bridge, and going over the bridge was much easier than I had anticipated. The hill really helped my muscles take a break from the work they'd been doing on the miles and miles of flat ground. After I got to them and they walked with me almost to mile 19, I realized that in one more mile I would be at 20 and it would be completely ridiculous to stop then. The Red Bull at 19.7 miles really helped. It has to be bad if Red Bull tastes good. Called my sister (who promised a pep talk if needed) around mile 20, and she said, "You can do it! Pep, pep, pep!" Best pep talk ever.
In the end I made it across the finish line in roughly 9 hours and five minutes. Somewhere there may be a picture, which I will post if I can find.
