Bloglet, the gentleman's mock turtle soup --
Moss made it sweeter than myrrh ash and dhoup

Johnnies are much of a muchness.

I go for people who are Very Good at what they do -- it thrills me to watch them Do it, and thinking about them Doing as Well as they Do makes me wiggle all over. I'm not Very Good at anything in particular. I'm a dilettante. I don't know if anyone can get the same thrill at well-done dilettantiness (which I'm still a long way from, even so) as I can at people who are Very Good, but that's how it is, I suppose. And we have our Place and our Function. {looks dignified}

I am in Baltimore! The Three Hour Rule served me in good stead, and I got here with a half hour to spare for my 11:00 appointment with the volunteer chick. Unfortunately, either I'm mixed up or she was mixed up, 'cause the place isn't open on Saturdays and nobody at the library next door knew anything about it. So, eh. That was a loss, but I have a whole day here in the big city, which is exciting. I've been walking around. I bought a blue tie, some water from some cute little girls (water? ha! when I was a kid, we had to mix up our own Kool-Aid if we wanted to get money by selling cold beverages. And none of that namby-pamby Kool-Aid in the big pouch with the sugar already added, no sir! We bought it ourselves -- six different flavors! -- mixed it up ourselves, and wrote the damn sign on our own damn chalkboard with our own damn chalk. None of this standing around with your mother keeping track of the money and using her big barrel thingie for a cooler! We carted those ice cubes from the kitchen to the streetcorner on our own backs, and we sweated our own sweat! Kids these days...), a CD holder thingie, and a pair of boxer shorts with multi-colored dragons on them. I sort of wandered around various neighborhoods and looked at houses and people and sidewalks and things. I'm enjoying it. Now I'm gonna catch a bus to nowhere in particular, and find something to put in my belly. I like big cities. More specifically, I like this one. It's got something in it that jives me. _

I have great faith in the Three Hour Rule. If it was good enough for Napoleon... _

Und MacHeath, der hat ein Messer

I just downloaded Titus Groan on audiobook, unabridged. I thought it was only going to cost $1.95, but it wound up costing rather more than that. Still, it's seventeen hours long, and read by a very suitable British Person, and it's going to put me to sleep for many a happy night, so I think it's a bargain. Slightly cheaper than buying the actual book, and about sixty-five dollars cheaper than buying it on tape or CD. So now I go to bed and dream of albino rooks. _

What is it with boxing priests? (I'm not talking about punching nuns; they're another matter entirely) There's Father Mulcahey from M*A*S*H, Father Damien from The Exorcist, the ex-seminarian federal agent from Minority Report (Saw it tonight. Good flick. Hell yeah.) -- all of them, and I'm positive there are some more I'm forgetting (Bing Crosby in some sentimental trash, maybe?)... I want to know what it is, exactly. Boxing priests. Huh. _

Good news: there is a Deutekom.com.
Bad news: It's not dedicated to the opera singer.

Ah well. Can't have everything. _

So, um. Flum. They're closing the library in 15 minutes, so I imagine I will go to the British Goodies store and buy British Goodies, and then I will... hm. What should I do afer that? I might as well stay in Annapolis for a few more hours at least. I suppose I will amuse myself by wandering up and down Main Street, or maybe I will play recorder on Front Campus. And then I will wend my way back up to Towsonland. I hope I get to see some fireworks before the night is out. _

This is the only Fourth I can remember when I haven't been in Montana. So far the biggest difference is the lack of firework stands every half-block, but I'm interested to see if there are any others. _

I wound up taking a detour to sing in Febbie Chorus, which was utterly loverly. Ahhh! And I saw Isabel Clark and Mr. Stoltzfus and Ms. Seeger (who didn't remember me, but I hardly blame her. (`; ) And we sang Ave Verum Corpus and a whole lot of other stuff I'd never seen before in my life, and I am gleeful. Hurray for Febbies! And now I am certainly going to stay put in the Library for a good bit. Yuss. _

Halloo? I, ah, er... I'm still in happily humid Annapolis, the sun is shining bright, I got a lovely night's sleep, and, em. What do I do now? I think perhaps I shall wander up to the coffee shop. And then I shall wander back here to the library to await further instructions. Hopefully. Yuss. Fooom! _
