Despite appearances, I really am fairly good at programmerly laziness. I'm not nearly impatient enough yet, though.
(It need hardly be stated that I am utterly hubristic.)

And now the top two movies on my NetFlix queue are Into the Woods and Marat/Sade. That may be an even more disturbing combination than the last one.

When two people are under the influence of the most violent, most insane, most delusive, and most transient of passions, they are required to swear that they will remain in that excited, abnormal, and exhausting condition continuously until death do them part.

Wow... it appears Seth and Andrew play the same sorts of bizarre wordgames on AIM that I do. Do others do this? Go back and forth with either word associations or variations on a sentence, without really explicitly stating the rules of what's going on? It's great fun. I had a bout of word association with Mirabai one night that lasted something like half an hour.

Some observations in response to this:
1) Commenting on bridgie's blog still doesn't work. This in itself is bothersome, but still more disturbing, to me personally, at least, is the fact that I actually recognize that error message at a glance.
2) Being unable to complete lots of little minor obligations seems to lead to even more stress than being unable to complete a few major ones. And that stress eventually leads to utter panic. It's weird and creepy--and it's kind of reassuring to hear that it happens to other people, too.
3) Ha! See, it's just like I said months ago when you were trying to decide what people should call you when you went to St. John's: you have no choice in the matter, you are Ms. Guildner.
4) They will continue to be vague about where the assignments end. Other particularly risky classes for this are the parts of Greek and French class where you're mostly translating--juniors and seniors take heed.
5) I won't even tell you what happens sophomore year when you're in the mood to have faith.
6) I kinda miss the days when none of the bloglets had comments, and we'd respond with linky entries like this. It didn't work as well, but it lent the whole expanding St. John's blogmass a sort of cohesion. Sort of.

Some people write Hello World programs when they're learning a new language, but those are too simple.
At least one wikizen (more than one, if I remember correctly) has said they write wikis in languages they're learning.
I think, in keeping with the tradition set by bloglet itself, I shall make a habit of starting my hacking in a new language with a weblogging program. There's a nice range to how complex it can be, it involves manipulations of strings, dates, and files (all interesting sorts of data to deal with), and it can allow all sorts of interesting bits of experimentation. Anyway, I need to get a better grip on Python, and I've been thinking of setting up a second weblog (one for random thoughts (that's this one) and one for linky goodness (don't you want linky goodness?)), and, well, why use a perfectly good finished program when you could waste a bunch of time and energy writing a new one? Right?

Woah! A personal homepage with a beautiful design and great content? What do you think this is, 1995? No, it's dollarshort.org, which I came across purely by chance while browsing the web this evening. It's a good thing I didn't go to bed at a reasonable hour.
