Bloglet - A tasty morsel of web goodness every time I log in.

I kind of like the idea of naming the folder I play in on an unfamiliar computer "delete this folder if Moss is no longer using this computer". It's efficient, it's simple and clear, it means that I can't really be blamed if its continued presence makes trouble for anyone, and besides, it's the only really fun use I've seen of Windows-style long file names. Or at least, it's a case of the more general only-fun-use, naming a file with instructions on how to use that file.

Hey, wow! Actual evidence that someone is reading bloglet! Hi Mike! And now, an anecdote: workers at a web startup in Northern California, probably inspired by the idea of "casual friday", recently began a new tradition in their workplace: several of them have taken to wearing their suits to the office on Mondays.

The whole debate over Napster, Gnutella, and such, would go much more smoothly if it didn't have idiot libertarians and you-dare-not-legislate-my-internet goons trying to take part in it and pass off their arguments as being somehow serious and worth considering. Just for the record, the arguments of libertarians are virtually never worth considering.

The Moon is Waxing Crescent (42% of Full), reports my computer. I suspect this is true, or as true as such statements ever are. Meanwhile, here I sit.

Okay, here goes: If I replace the word 'America' with the words 'North America', only the context will determine whether I am specifically including Canada and Mexico, or where I am specifically excluding South America.

I can't understand how Flash can be so brilliant in some ways and so brain-damaged in others. It's object-oriented--so much so that it's impossible to even think of it in strictly procedural terms--yet it lacks any really coherent notion of classes, or even arrays, for that matter.

My first login from work. And the big discovery is actually about whorfin: the "unresolvable hosts will be cut off in a week or two" message is still up, just as it was a few months ago when last I logged in from an unresolvable host. Somehow I'm not convinced.

Well, that was it. I've had my first day of work, and it was actually kind of fun. I learned Macromedia Flash. I met some nice people. Overall it wasn't at all bad. All the same, when I imagine 10,000 more of them, I do begin to grow a little skeptical about the whole thing.

"...the student left is depicted as a menace threatening freedom of research and teaching; the student movement is said to have placed the freedom of the universities in jeopardy by seeking to impose totalitarian ideological controls. That is how the state capitalist intellectuals describe the fact that their near-total control of ideology was very briefly brought into question, as they seek to close again these slight breaches in the system of thought control, and to reverse the process through which just a little diversity arose within the ideological institutions: the totalitarian menace of fascism of the left! And they really believe this..."
